Steve's Video Of The Day: Gimli, Manitoba, DHC-4T Caribou Destruction!

NewCal Aviation, from Little Ferry, New Jersey, was working on an aircraft conversion in the early 1990s. The location was Gimli, Manitoba, 25 miles from my house, and the aircraft they were converting was the deHavilland Canada DHC-4 Caribou. They were removing the 1450hp Pratt & Whitney R-2000-7M2 14 cylinder twin row radial piston engines, and replacing them with Pratt and Whitney PT6-67B turbine engines of 1600hp each. This was a great conversion, and would have greatly updated the Caribou fleet. Alas, the project was doomed to be a tragic failure, due to a fatal mistake, as the aircraft took-off with the control locks still engaged. Here is the final test-flight of the re-engined deHavilland Canada DHC-4 Caribou!
