He "Lost" An Engine..............Literally!

We in the aviation industry know what the meaning is when someone states "he lost an engine". The engine failed, and then became a "mass of unwanted drag". I remember an armchair pilot one time recounting a story of how a pilot he knew lost an engine on a Britten-Norman Islander while on his way to Berens River. "Yup, he lost it", he told me, "it fell right off in a swamp between Bloodvein River and Berens!" The fellow relating me this story was named Norm Feakes, and little did he know that I knew of the incident, and also knew the pilot, Oliver Owen. Yes, Oliver did "lose" an engine, but he landed in Berens River safely "on one engine", but the inoperative one was still attached. Norm seemed to think that "pilot lingo" was "literal". Anyways, Norm could tell this next story and be truthful. Check it out.

That must've been some "bump" when the engine departed........... Posted by Picasa

More than "duct tape" will be necessary for this repair! "Adios!" Posted by Picasa
